Filipino cuisine has developed from the different cultures that shaped its history. Think Southeast Asia but with heavy Spanish influence. Some ingredients of the Mexican cuisine, such as corn, tomato and chili, have also found their way to the Philippines.

Filipino food is sweet, salty, sour, and masarsa (saucy). Like many Asian countries, rice figures heavily. And coconut is of utmost importance, with all parts of the coconut (including the sap and leaves) used in cooking and preparation.

Filipino food is diverse, much like the Halo-Halo... a mixture of shaved ice, evaporated milk, beans, caramelized fruits, jelly cubes, pinipig, sago, nata de coco, kaong, then topped with leche flan, ube halaya, or ube ice cream.
