Maya Bay Thailand

DAY 1 (D) ARRIVE PHUKET

Sawasdee! Welcome to Phuket, Thailand’s largest island nestled by the crystalline waters of the Andaman Sea. The country’s top beach destination and the wealthiest province of Thailand, Phuket lures millions of tourists seeking its gorgeous beaches, stunning viewpoints, magnificent temples, sumptuous cuisine, and vibrant nightlife scene. After hotel check in, we tumble to Rim Talay at Amari Phuket for your welcome dinner. Phuketian cuisine follows the Thai concept of combining sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors in each dish, but brings in a lot of influences from elsewhere: Malay aromatics, Chinese soy sauce instead of fish sauce, local fruits like Pineapple and Garcinia, to name a few. For this and more, Phuket is recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. Will you extinguish your hunger with Moo Hong (Southern stewed pork belly with cinnamon, coconut sugar, oyster sauce, and soy sauce)? Or perhaps try Kaeng Krati Goong Sapparod (Shrimp and Phuket pineapple in yellow curry). Why choose when you can have both? Aroy mak mak!

DAY 2 (BL) PHI PHI ISLAND HOPPING

Ready to have an awesome day out at sea? Kickstart your day with a filling breakfast then we navigate to AA Marina where we hop on a private speedboat to explore Phi Phi Islands. Our first stop: the enchanting Phi Phi Lae Island, home to the famous Maya Bay – a beautiful bay sheltered by towering cliffs. Did you know that Maya Bay was the filming location of the movie “The Beach” which starred Leonardo DiCaprio? Haven’t seen it? We think you should! (*wink*) Afterwards, we go snorkeling at Loh Samah Bay. Swim in the divine waters of Pi Leh Cove. Admire the striking Viking Cave. Next we make our way to Phi Phi Don Island, the largest and only inhabited island of the bunch, for a yummy buffet lunch then meet the wild but friendly Macaques at Monkey Beach. Want more? We check out Khai Nai Island for a last swim before heading back. Good times!

DAY 3 (BL) GREEN ELEPHANT SANCTUARY PARK TOUR

Down your coffee and load up on Pad Thai because today’s task is massive. We scoot off to the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park for an unforgettable journey to the world of Asian Elephants. Fun fact: The national animal of Thailand – the Elephant – consumes up to 200 kilograms (440 pounds) of food a day. Green Elephant Sanctuary Park is an ethical Elephant sanctuary providing a home for rescued Elephants, allowing intimate interactions with these impressive creatures without rides or shows. Learn about the conservation efforts and experience Elephants the purest way, in a natural environment where they are free. Enjoy feeding the Elephants with fruits. Join in a mudbath then wash off at the XXL Elephant Shower. You’ll be accompanied by experienced Elephant trainers the whole time so that you can feel completely safe. Afterwards, be rewarded with a delicious Thai buffet lunch. We guarantee this is one experience that’ll be hard to forget.

The tour and transfers on this day are non-private and shared with other guests of the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park.

DAY 4 (BD) PHUKET-BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN BY FLIGHT

Grab your passport. It’s time for country number two. Salam dan selamat datang! Welcome to the Abode of Peace – Brunei Darussalam. Located on the island of Borneo, Brunei is a tiny but oil-rich sultanate that’s known for its beaches, grand mosques, river journeys, and virgin rainforests that cover 70% of the country. We skid to Gadong Night Market – easily the best place to spend your first evening for its authentic local vibes and an unimaginable array of local delicacies, fruits, and many other treats. The best of Bruneian native cuisine under one roof! Be sure to save some space for dinner because this one is even more special. Nasi Talam offers a unique dining experience by serving several plates of traditional Bruneian dishes on a round bamboo tray, locally called a TALAM. The menu usually features local homestyle dishes such as Badal Kicap (Chicken gizzard in soy sauce), Lalap Daging (Beef jerky), Liking Kuasi (Dried fish marinated with ground chili and tamarind), and Belutak (Bruneian cured sausage). At the center of it all is a large bowl of steaming white or turmeric rice. This lavish meal is meant to be shared, suitably embodying the Bruneian culture of community sharing. Maritah makan! After dinner, you’re free to explore and make your own mark in this royal city.

DAY 5 (BL) BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN-SERIA-BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN BY VAN

Wakey wakey! It’s time for a road trip. Today we head to Seria, the heart of Brunei’s oil industry and the town where oil was first discovered in the country in 1929. Oil is the backbone of this nation’s economy and the nodding donkeys (The pumpjack, not the animal!) scattered all over this town as well as the Billionth Barrel Monument are reminders of the town’s role in bringing wealth to the country, allowing the state to give its citizens one of the highest per capita incomes in Asia. After lunch, we head back to Bandar Seri Begawan then bounce to Kampong Ayer – a thriving water village built on stilts above the Brunei River. People have been living for more than 1,300 years in this settlement complete with homes, mosques, restaurants, shops, schools, fire stations, and even a hospital – all on stilts connected by wooden walkways! Afterwards, we hop on a boat to navigate Brunei River’s mangroves in search of the Proboscis monkey. This leaf-eating endangered monkey species lives only on the island of Borneo. Did you know Proboscis monkeys are prolific swimmers, leaping from trees and hitting the water with a comical belly flop then swimming with their webbed feet and hands that help them outpace the Crocodiles that are some of their main predators? During the cruise, keep your eyes open for other amazing wildlife like the Long-tailed macaque, Kingfisher, Egret, and Silvered langur. Hakuna matata!

DAY 6 (BL) BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN CITY TOUR

Don your royal robe, milord! It’s time to explore Brunei’s capital city. First we head to Tamu Kianggeh, a local market with a wide array of shopping and eating options located at the banks of Kianggeh River. Have you heard that British monarch Queen Elizabeth II visited Tamu Kianggeh in 1998? Fact! We continue to the Royal Regalia Museum, home to the Sultanate's collection of exquisite heirlooms and regalia. (Try not to climb the golden chariot!) Then it’s onto Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque with its 29 golden domes made of 29 carat gold, the massive Istana Nurul Iman or the residence of the Sultan, then the Malay Technology Museum. After lunch, we drive through the impressive Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge and check out Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, the majestic Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, then Istana Darussalam – the birthplace of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. Then finally it’s time for some retail therapy at Yayasan Shopping Complex. You came, you saw, you shop!

DAY 7 (BD) BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN-CEBU BY FLIGHT

Bad news: It’s your last day in Brunei. Good news: You’re heading to another country, this time to the Philippines. Mabuhay! Welcome to Cebu, the "Queen City of the South" and home to amazing journeys and delectable food. Did you know that the Philippines was claimed in the name of Spain in 1521 by Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer sailing for Spain, who named the islands after King Philip II of Spain? Philip = Philippines! It’s here in Cebu where the first permanent Spanish settlement was established in 1565. For dinner, get ready to salivate over Cebu’s most celebrated delicacy: Lechon – one whole pig soaked and stuffed with a mix of herbs and spices, skewered on a bamboo pole, then slow roasted over hot charcoal. It’s so good people often have to stand in line for it. What's more, American chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain named Lechon Cebu as the “Best pig ever.” Now who are we to argue with him? Skip the calorie count because tonight we’re bingeing on Lechon Cebu!

DAY 8 (BL) CEBU-OSLOB-MOALBOAL-CEBU BY VAN

Today, we need to wake up bright and early but you’ll have plenty of nap time as we roll into Oslob. Ready for a mind-blowing experience? Take a deep breath and plunge into the water to swim with the world’s largest fishes. Whale sharks can grow up to 12 meters (40 feet) long and weigh an average of 20 tons. Though carnivorous, you don’t need to worry because they don’t pose any threat to humans. (Their diet consists mainly of smalls shrimps and plankton.) You’re sure to be wowed (And feel really small) with this unique wildlife interaction that will leave memories to last a lifetime. Next, we navigate to Moalboal where we hop on another boat for more underwater wonders. The most well-known attraction of Moalboal is a huge group of hundreds of tiny Sardines swimming in synch, called the Sardine Run. Nearby, Sea turtles can be spotted grazing seagrass. There’s also Pescador Island famous for its rich marine ecosystem, making it a superb diving and snorkeling spot. Swimming with Whale sharks, hundreds of Sardines, and Sea turtles all in one day… This is one for the books!

DAY 9 (BD) CEBU-DAVAO BY FLIGHT

Onward! Today, we’ve got our GPS set for Davao – a multi-cultural metropolis, the Philippines’ largest city, the culinary, cultural, economic, and commercial capital of the south, and the gateway to the lush island of Mindanao. Davao is a city that capitalizes on the outdoors. You’re in for a pleasant surprise! Come dinnertime, we skedaddle to Garden Bay Restaurant for a splendid dinner by the beach. This one’s really spe-SHELL!

DAY 10 (BL) DAVAO COUNTRYSIDE TOUR

Rise and grind! Get ready to discover Davao’s mesmerizing countryside that’s sure to reinvigorate with refreshing natural views and a remarkable wildlife encounter. First off, we venture to the Philippine Eagle Sanctuary to meet the Philippines’ national bird. Found only in the Philippines, the Philippine eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) is a large bird of prey that’s critically endangered with an estimated 400 pairs left in the wild. This majestic bird can have a wingspan of up to 2.5 meters (8 feet). The Philippine eagle is monogamous. Once paired, a couple remains together for the rest of their lives. (Isn’t that amazing?) Next we navigate to Eden Nature Park where buffet lunch is served as we enjoy an invigorating mountain ambience that will surely delight nature-lovers. Ever tried bicycling on a cable 18 meters (60 feet) above the ground? This is your chance! Then it’s onto Malagos Garden and Malagos Chocolate Museum. Immerse yourself in the magical world of chocolate artistry and discover Davao’s pride, the Malagos Chocolate – cultivated from ethically grown Puentespina cacao beans harvested from the foothills of Mount Talomo to export-quality, world-class, smooth chocolate that melts in your mouth. Truly scrumptious! Get your hands dirty (Well… chocolatey!) with a fun chocolate making activity. Choose your type of chocolate, pick your toppings, select your mold, mix them all then put in the fridge, and voila! You’ve just become a chocolate wiz with your own chocolate masterpiece. (Congratulations!) Afterwards we flee to Jack's Ridge, a hilltop spot that was once the location of the headquarters of the retreating Japanese forces towards the end of World War II. Enjoy a commanding view of Davao City and Davao Gulf and also check out the nearby Shrine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague. Delightful!

DAY 11 (BD) DAVAO-SIARGAO BY FLIGHT

Zip your suitcase. Today we’re heading to the Philippines’ surfing capital – Siargao. After an easy breezy flight, we bounce to your hotel then scoot off to Cloud 9, the island’s most popular surfing spot. In case you missed it, Cloud 9 was ranked 8th in CNNGo's World's Top 50 Best Surf Spots. Care for a surf? Or go swimming or just relax while enjoying a fresh fruit smoothie. Bottoms up! Come dinnertime, expect a spread of drool-worthy seafood so good, you’ll probably overeat. Then you’re free to check out the island’s vibrant nightlife. One ice-cold San Miguel please!

DAY 12 (BL) SIARGAO-BUCAS GRANDE-SIARGAO

Put on a happy face and get ready for your greatest Siargao adventure yet. More than just the regular sightseeing, today’s activities include swimming, snorkeling, ledge jumping, diving, cave explorations, and more. Hokahey! We make a bolt for Dapa then hop on to a boat to Bucas Grande Island’s Sohoton Cove. Ready for something amazing? Prepare to be surrounded by smacks of Stingless jellyfish. Stingless jellyfish have a translucent bell measuring between 2-7 centimeters (0.8-2.8 inches) in diameter but some individuals can reach 30 centimeters (12 inches) long. Though small in size, the sight of dozens, oftentimes even hundreds of them, is truly a magical experience. We also visit Hagukan Luminous Cave. A truly peculiar site, this cave not only produces a “haguk” or snoring sound but also brings a dazzling glow that can be seen on the stalactites, the surrounding water, and on the skin of anyone who enters the cave. There’s also Magkukuob Cave as well as Tundan Cave, the most impressive and deepest cave in all of Sohoton Bay. We also check out Club Tara Resort, Tiktikan Lagoon, and Mark A Island where you can swim and relax to your heart’s content. SHELL yeah!

DAY 13 (BL) SIARGAO ISLAND HOPPING + FIREFLIES & BIOLUMINESCENCE TOUR

Dig into breakfast then prepare to go on an island hopping adventure to visit three of Siargao’s most famous islands and more. Go snorkeling amidst colorful marine life at the Fish Sanctuary. Discover Naked Island – a sandbar that, as its name suggests, is without any trees or shade. We then flee to Daku Island for more swimming and snorkeling. Daku Island is also the perfect setting to satisfy your tastebuds with the iconic Siargao Boodle Fight – a delightful beachfront barbecue lunch featuring freshly caught seafood and more. A treat for your eyes and most definitely your tummy! Afterwards, we glide to the tiny but mighty Guyam Island where you can relax in a cottage, in a hammock, under a tree, or perhaps explore the surrounding dramatic rock formations. Finally, enjoy your last beach hurrah swimming at Secret Island before the tide rises. Fun times guaranteed! In the evening, we hit the mangroves of Secret Beach with a boat cruise while watching glittering fireflies and bioluminescent plankton. It's the northern lights of the sea!

DAY 14 (BD) SIARGAO-CORON BY FLIGHT

Wave goodbye to Siargao and say hello to Coron. After hotel check in, it’s time for your first Palawan experience… A soothing dip at Maquinit Hot Spring. Relaxation goals unlocked! Up for a high CRAB meal? For dinner, dig into the tastiest steamed crabs in town. Absolutely CLAW-some!

DAY 15 (BL) CORON-CALAUIT-CORON

Get your game face on as we voyage to Calauit Safari Park for a geo-confusing (Yet highly rewarding) safari experience. Located on a 3,700-hectare (9,143 acres) island northwest of Busuanga Island, Calauit Safari Park is a wildlife sanctuary that’s home to native animal species as well as “imported” ones from Africa – a rather peculiar situation that’s bound to make you question which continent you’re actually on. Animals like Giraffe, Zebra, Gazelle, Topis, Elands, Impalas, Bushbuck, and Waterbuck were transported from Kenya in the 1970s in an effort to preserve their species from famine and hunting. They live harmoniously with endemic wildlife such as the Calamian deer, Palawan bearded pig, Mouse deer, Palawan bearcat, Philippine pangolin, Palawan peacock pheasant, and more. Enjoy close encounters with these wild animals as they roam around the safari park. Grab a branch and help towering Giraffes graze till they're full. (They eat 30 kilos or 66 pounds of food per day!) After the safari adventure, a leisurely boat ride takes us to Malajon Island or more commonly known as Black Island. From afar, Black Island looks menacing because of its dark, karst cliffs. Up close, the island is remarkable with its stunning cave pools and divine beaches waiting to be explored. Did somebody accuse us of being beach lovers? We’re GILL-ty as charged!

DAY 16 (BL) CORON ISLAND HOPPING

Swimsuit up! Today we hit the water to visit islands, lagoons, beaches, and two out of eight lakes on Coron that are open to the public. Kayangan Lake and Barracuda Lake are sacred cultural sites for the indigenous Tagbanua people, one of the oldest tribes in the Philippines. Swim and free dive into these lakes and make sure to take photos of the gorgeous sceneries. Explore the dreamlike Twin Lagoon and experience the uncanny feeling of swimming in thermocline waters (A fancy schmancy way of saying a mixture of cold deep water and warmer surface water), something that rarely happens in other bodies of water, making it a unique experience you absolutely shouldn’t miss. We also check out Skeleton Wreck, a 25-meter long Japanese supply ship that was hit by an airstrike by the US Air Force during World War II. In case you missed it, Coron is listed as one of Top 10 Best Scuba Diving Sites in the World by Forbes Traveler Magazine for the abundance of Japanese shipwrecks in the area (There’s 24 of them!) Not a scuba diver? Worry not! Skeleton Wreck is located on shallow waters so you can free dive or simply snorkel on the surface to catch a glimpse. Next, spot Nemo while snorkeling at Siete Pecados. Soak up the sun at CYC Beach. It doesn’t get any better than this.

DAY 17 (B) CORON-DEPARTURE

Down your coconut juice and grab your suitcase that’s now overweight with precious mementos. We bid farewell after breakfast. What an adventure it’s been! It’s time to plan your next great expedition.
